Is using a GPS distance device allowed under USGA regulations? The USGA and R&A both recently sanctioned the use of satellite-based yardage measuring devices during competition. Specifically, decision 14-3/0.5 allows a committee to permit the use of distance measuring devices by Local Rule. Rating:  - Other reviewers were rightJust bought the GPS8 and used it once. Was very frustrated when I first tried to register and download courses. Tried it on both Mac and PC computers with no luck. Of course it was over the weekend so I had to wait until Monday to get tech support. After a long wait on hold I finally got to talk to tech support. They were great! The problem was the USB connection to the GPS unit. I thought it was connected well but it wasn't. Once I got that connected, tech support helped me get the GPS working on both computers. Downloading 20 courses was a breeze. Once I got to the course, the unit worked as advertised. Easy to read in bright sunlight. Distances were spot on. All automatic, no buttons to push. Knowing the exact distance for club selection helped save 5-6 strokes. Rating: - Every Player Should be Required to Have One!I received the GolfLogix GPS as a unexpected Xmas present from my wife and got to use it for the first time yesterday. This unit saved me from some poor decisions just by presenting the layup options and hazard locations. Decision making is also quick and easy as you know the distances before looking for sprinkler heads and other markers. It really speeds up the game! I would highly recommend to all golfers and golf courses, 5 Stars Rating:  - Problems with MacGolfLogix says it works with Mac OS X, but I found out otherwise. Turned it on and registered the unit with GolfLogix. The software immediately downloaded and installed a firmware update. After installation, it wouldn't turn on. GolfLogix customer service says this is a known, common problem with their software on Macs. Had to return the unit for replacement. I'd recommend registration and software updates with MS Windows. Customer support was good, but a long wait on the phone. Rating: - Do your homework before you buy!After reading some rediculous reviews and expectations, I decided to write view of my own. The Garmin GolfLogix is the device for me. Comparing devices determines what is important for YOU. Knowing how GPS works and limitations can/should save some buyers remorse. (Personal GPS devices do not know distance to the pin) None of them! My golf game... I'm a 12-15 cap. Not going to be competing anytime soon. I picked up the Golflogix for 150.00. So the price was right. Not to mention the annual subscription fee is about half of the SkyCaddie comparable service. So I will pay less than $220.00 for two years use. Skycaddie - between $400-500. Now, the one thing the skycaddie does the Golflogix does not... The newer SC gives a good general description of the green shape and distances to those points. GLX only gives you front, center, back distances. Can you guess why? Money SC pays people to go out and mark ... Read More Rating:  - Software issues out of the boxAfter two days of trying to download software onto unit, learned through customer support about a software issue. Garmin agreed to replace unit, no questions asked. Hopefully, there will be no issues with the replacement.
